Chapter 566: Heavy Is The Head That Wears The crown
Chapter 566: Heavy Is The Head That Wears The crown
Arid and Eunid took a look at each other one more time, and then they mounted their Scorpions. As they did, seating on the mounted saddle, the guards handed them control of the beasts, Chains, bathed with runes so that the Scorpions could still be controlled was used to make the reins.
However the double tails of the core beasts scorpions were left free as it was a part of the competition.
After which each of them was handed a lance.
When it came to the succession of a virtue family, the matter was treated with incredible significance. After all, one that was not competent could led the family to ruin or even worse, become deadbeat.
Even a dying family such as this one had to be strong and careful in the direction of its future.
At the same time, a challenge for succession meant that they were those that did not believe that the one to rule was suitable for the position.
Although a family, everyone had a right to their opinions. After all, once the one chosen to rule were to seat on the family throne, obedience must be given by the will of the Diligent flame.
Such was the truth of any family. For this reason, this was truly the only time that could have the satisfaction of challenging Eunid.
But it went deeper than that, and that was the fact that the loser could decided to sabotage the family for being sore or out of shame and embarrassment.
To avoid such things from happening, the opportunity to kill one another within the battle for succession was gifted, and seen as a way of release from shame, and sometimes even as a send off to the arms of the goddess of fate.
After all, if one’s life was to be spared. The individual would have to be expelled from the family as a whole.
And it was not uncommon for the winner to have people kill the person that had been sent out of the family in secret.
In ruling a family, power was important, but it was not everything as the flame of the family compelled the family members to obedience and submission.
This was not to say that the power could not be abused, but that would be the fate of that entire generation until the seat of head of the family was forfeited by death or willingness.
This was why Eunid not having a high cultivation rank did not matter. After all, there was always the elder generation to guide the younger.
Amongst the current families of virtue, there was indeed one such family.
Eunid knew from the moment that he could talk that he had to be better. His father had long engrained growth with his mind, carving upon himself the principles of a leader but also the expectations.
It was for this reason that mulligan had not said a word about the entire issue even now.
There was no pat on the head, there was no advice on how to fight, or a try to sway Arid’s decision with his own and authority as patriach of the family.
After all, Eunid no matter what would face challenges. It was better he dealth with them on his own.
But that did not mean that Mulligan was not worried for his son. Even now, as he sat on his seat, there were times during the last battle that he had tightened his fist in worry for his child.
As it did, so did eunid directing his own to also charge forth.
Eunid, in his mind had a plan. he was one that depended more on his witts and his mind than brute force.
His plan was a simple one. He was going to agitate the core beast such that it creates and attacking advantage for him.
As they rushed to one another, Eunid’s lance suddenly pointed downwards, just when they were to hit each other, at the same time, he moved to the side attempting to dodge arid’s weapon.
Now, while this was a good strategy, Arid was not going to stay idle.
And this was where Eunid made the mistake. He had not accounted for the fact that Arid also had his own plan in motion.
As Eunid’s lance attacked one of the legs of the opposing core beast scorpion, Arid kicked against his own beast, jumping high into the sky.
At such a time, everyone’s gaze focused on these two.
Eunid was also surprised by his cousin, leaping into the sky. After all, Arid wa sleaping away from his core beast scorpion and unto his own.
"Damn it!" Eunid cursed as he realized what was going on. Arid was coming unto his own Core beast scorpion.
Truly, if he had known this was the plan, he would have attacked high instead of attacking low.
Arid on the other hand, had a smirk on his face. For once, he had outsmarted Eunid, and it felt good.
In mid air, he suddenly waved his hands, removing a knife from his side as he spun wildly in the air.
*Dancing grace of the Diligent goddess.*
A wild spirit energy suddenly formed about his body as he forced it down towards Eunid.
Instinctively, Eunid, changed his grip around the handle of then lance, as he lifted it above his head, only, barely infusing it with spiritual energy.
*DUM!*
The echoes of the attack resounded around the arena.
And the gasp of the crowd was heard.
After all, this was an incredibly pivotal moment. One that shocked every person watching.
At the moment of impact, even the Night Mistress had her emotions so flared up that the sky got darker and Pangubox had to pat her on the head for her to take control of her powers...
