Chapter 2145 - 59: Great Tranquility (Part 1)

In the past, these materials were used only for the weapons and armor of Higher Ascenders, for Aether Armament and other things that only Ascenders could use.

But five or six years after the Arcane Pathway became widespread, the manufacture of these materials has already turned into an assembly line.

This is the gift the Star Gods bestowed upon all beings in the universe: the two greatest bottlenecks that most effectively hinder the development of civilization—materials science and the speed of light—have both been furnished with ladders by Their mighty power of altering the universal constants.

Perhaps this is the [Sky Ladder] of civilization.

The Sky Ladder leading into space was being built at high speed. The most difficult part of the process was actually how to pull the cable out to the equatorial orbit. In general, one has to launch a rocket-borne satellite, let the satellite drop the cable, and then build the main trunk of a space elevator.

Silverpeak Domain did not command particularly advanced rocket technology, and its satellite technology was almost nonexistent... The electromagnetic signals of Terra were still easily interfered with, and communication relied only on Domain of Void signals.

But Domain of Void signals still had the drawback of instability. Even though Ian had already joined forces with the Fae to use the Power of the Light Realm to calm the Domain of Void bit by bit, that was the limit for civilian communications. For a strategic structure like a space elevator, you could not just make do.

They could, indeed, launch a Heart of Terra crystal as a satellite, but only on the premise of having enough relay nodes—they would need to place crystal relays layer by layer along the middle of the space elevator to let the power of the Heart of Terra extend from Silverpeak Domain into space.

At present, the linkage radius of a Heart of Terra relay is twenty-five kilometers, and a large relay can extend to three hundred kilometers, but large relays are generally located at a city’s center and are as big as a five-story-tall castle.

The smallest feasible relays that could be miniaturized for use in the space elevator were capped at twenty-five kilometers. To link the top of the space elevator to the Heart of Terra’s control zone would require three to four thousand relays; who knew how many rockets and satellites would have to be launched for that.

But this was not a big problem.

Silverpeak Domain had no satellites, but they had dragons!

As a Void Realm True Dragon, Sio might not fly fast, but breaking through the atmosphere and reaching orbital altitude was still an easy task for her—she very casually placed a gigantic Heart of Terra crystal satellite exactly where it ought to be, then let the cable hang down.

Sio’s mother, the King of the Mountain, would take over here. He would use Earth Series Origin Quality techniques to grant this crystal a mass of over twenty million tons as the counterweight for the space elevator. He would stay here as the Emissary of Dragon Island, until Silverpeak Domain built a gigantic space station here, perhaps even a space shipyard and Space City.

Tens of thousands of kilometers of Enchanted Carbon Fiber Rope were lowered directly by the dragon and powerful Ascenders, linking up with the already quite intact main base of the space elevator. In the past, powerful super-individuals had been created by an extremely advanced civilization; now, with fragile civilization wiped out by a world-ending disaster, powerful super-individuals could again easily reshape civilization.

Perhaps this too was a kind of ring, a kind of undying Reincarnation.

[Beginning deployment]

In the space elevator control room at Redwood Base, the gigantic holographic display was divided into three main sections. Dazzling streams of data and various indicators flashed across all kinds of smaller screens and sub-windows, while on the central main screen, a vertical "progress bar" was climbing steadily upward.

The Heart of Terra had already taken over the master control System of Redwood Base, and It was now slowly extending Its own Tentacles to take control of the entire frame of the space elevator.

As chief engineer, Roland and several master Dwarven craftsmen from Gantreignum, once they confirmed that all data were correct, left the main control room and came outside—over the boundless Southern Sea, a silver island had suddenly appeared. This was the surfaced top level of Redwood Base, the former "materials transfer platform," as well as the foundation of another superstructure: the "mass accelerator."

In the previous epoch, the civilization of that time had built two superstructures. The one actually built first was the "mass accelerator," meant to assist rocket launches and conduct technical experiments.

Because of Terra’s dense internal atmosphere, this was not the stage for the mass accelerator; its true stage was the vacuum of Outer Space. The pre-epoch civilization had built different accelerators all over the world. The Gantreignum Republic possessed the largest one, a special accelerator that used Spark Technology. It was located atop a mountain range, shining like a star, and it might not even have been a simple acceleration device, but a special facility capable of affecting gravity itself.

Since they already had the aid of Ascenders, Silverpeak Domain chose to restore the space elevator first. As for the mass accelerator, they would study its structure. The great engineers of Gantreignum were drawn here by it, willing to ally with Silverpeak Domain to study this precious Legacy of the pre-epoch civilization.

They all silently watched the distant platform rapidly taking shape, watched as it was quickly assembled together with the Heart of Terra relays. The mighty main frame of the space elevator had already been constructed over the past few years, and those green-blue crystals were being placed one by one by the True Dragon, vanishing into the unreachable, boundless darkness at the top of the Firmament.

After a time, once all relays were in place and their power linked to the trunk, all the crystal relays suspended in midair began to emit a faint light, and in an instant, a powerful Spirit Energy pulse traversed the ninety thousand kilometers in between.
