Chapter 6 Fried Fish
Chapter 6 Fried Fish
Evan's words startled the bishop on the other side of the confessional. The bishop in charge of the confessional was responsible for collecting information on any supernatural events that might occur around believers.
However, this was the first time the old bishop had ever seen someone use the confessional to report a heretic. Moreover, having experienced many things and being well-informed, the old bishop was very suspicious that the young man who made the report might have been corrupted by an evil god.
After a moment of silence, just as Evan was about to speak again, the old bishop spoke:
"You are a devout believer of the Goddess, and she will surely bless you. Now leave the confessional, turn left, and you will see a door. Go inside, and the first room on your right is my office. Please sit down for a while. A bishop will come to find you. Remember not to wander around once you are inside."
Evan immediately understood that the old bishop was trying to appease him, a potential cultist, but he didn't care. He stood up and respectfully said:
"As you command!"
After speaking, he picked up his cane, placed his hand on his chest, bowed slightly, and then left the confessional, going to the room the old bishop had mentioned.
After confirming that Evan had left, the old bishop quickly pulled some ropes nearby, summoning a priest to inform the night watchmen of the matter. He himself remained calm, pretending nothing had happened, and waited for the next confessor.
Just then, Klein Moretti, having drunk the 'Diviner' potion in the early morning and learned how to use 'spiritual awareness' and other knowledge, emerged from underground and saw his captain, Dunn.
Meanwhile, Captain Dunn was giving Klein his final words of advice:
"Remember, curiosity killed the cat, and it also killed the extraordinary. Don't try to investigate whispers you shouldn't hear or things you shouldn't see."
"Yes, Captain!" Klein knew this was another reminder from the captain about the Beyonders going out of control.
Just as Klein was about to take his leave and go home for a good night's sleep to replenish the mental energy he had lost from practicing 'spiritual awareness' all morning, Leonard, with his poetic air, rushed over and said to Dunn:
"Captain, the church priest sent word that a follower of the goddess wants to report a heretic who worships an evil god. The old bishop is worried that this follower may have been corrupted after coming into contact with the heretics, so he asked us to go and check it out!"
Dunn was a seasoned night watchman who had handled many extraordinary events, but this was the first time he had ever heard of someone who had come into contact with followers of evil gods and would voluntarily report them to the church. After all, most people would just keep their distance and stay away if they noticed something, and there was a small chance that they would actively join in in order to gain supernatural power.
Moreover, cult members are generally very cautious. Those who would voluntarily expose themselves are usually potential believers who have passed their tests. Dunn found it hard to imagine that ordinary people could withstand the tests of cult members, let alone those who had no problems themselves, let alone dare to come to the Church of the True God.
Dunn thought for a moment and said directly to Leonard, "It cannot be ruled out that this is a trap set by cultists. To prevent any accidents, you and Old Neil should have the priests evacuate the relevant believers as soon as possible, and also have the other priests stay far away from that room and evacuate to Blackthorn Company. You go first, I will follow shortly."
Leonard glanced at Klein, who looked very tired, nodded in agreement, and turned to leave in a hurry.
Seeing what had happened at the church, Klein couldn't pretend he hadn't heard and just go home to sleep, so he took the initiative to speak up:
"Captain, I'll come too. Although I'm not good at fighting, I have demon hunter bullets that can cause damage. After all, the situation is unclear right now, and more people mean more strength." As he spoke, Klein patted the revolver hidden under his arm.
Dunn hesitated for a moment, then nodded in agreement and gave the instructions:
"Go to the church now and help Leonard and Old Neil disperse the crowd. I'll go behind the Charnis door to get a sealed item, and I'll be there shortly."
Klein didn't waste any words and went straight to the church through the tunnel to help evacuate the crowd.
Soon the ordinary believers in the church were evacuated, while the priests and bishops without extraordinary abilities went to the "Blackthorn Company" on another street through the tunnel.
Meanwhile, Leonard, Klein, and Old Neil stood guard outside the room where Evan was, keeping a close watch.
Soon after, Captain Dunn appeared in front of Klein and the others, holding a clump of messy but dark hair and several robes from the Church of the Night.
"Seal Item 3 - 0611, Quiet Hair, can make the person who comes into contact with it lose all desire. The effect will not be triggered unless there is direct physical contact."
Klein had just taken a potion and didn't know anything about the sealed artifact, so Leonard explained it to him in a low voice.
Klein looked at the gloves on Captain Dunn's hands and nodded solemnly, indicating that he understood.
Captain Dunn clearly had a plan for handling this situation. He handed the strand of quiet hair to Leonard and said:
"The situation is unclear right now. The person inside may have been in contact with cultists. He may have been corrupted, or he may not have been. If I rashly pull him into the dream, it may trigger the problems within him."
So we'll contact him as church priests. I'll try to pull him into a dream depending on the situation. If anything unusual happens, Leonard will use 3-0611 to control him, and Old Neil will quickly set up ritual magic to stabilize his state. If Old Neil fails, Klein will fire the demon-hunting bullets. Understand?
"Understood!" Klein and the other two whispered. Then they took the robes that Dunn had collected, pretended to be church clergy, and opened the door to the room.
To Klein's surprise, Captain Dunn and teammate Leonard were stunned when they entered the room and saw the young man who had come to report them, while he and Old Neil were somewhat confused.
When Evan saw the four people suddenly enter through the door, he immediately locked his gaze on Klein, who had black hair, brown eyes, and a strong scholarly air about him, and exclaimed in surprise:
"Klein? What are you doing here? Have you mastered some mysterious supernatural power?"
When Klein heard Evan call his name, he felt that the person in front of him was somewhat familiar. It took him a while to remember that the person in front of him was the dream lover of many girls at Hoy University, and that he had seen him at his classmate Welch's house and that Welch had introduced them to each other.
However, the original owner was insecure about the gap between her family background and the other party's, so she rarely took the initiative to talk to the other party. Therefore, the relationship between the two could not be described as close, but they were acquaintances.
Seeing Evan greet him with a look of surprise and excitement, Klein suppressed his embarrassment and said to Evan, an acquaintance of the original owner of this body:
"Hello, Evan!"
"Mr. Evan, you said you had leads on heretics, so why didn't you mention it when we went to your house this morning? Why did you come to the church to report it instead?"
Leonard's words arrived just in time, diverting Evan's attention and easing Klein's tension and embarrassment at bumping into someone he knew from the original body.
Evan glanced at Leonard, but didn't answer his question. Instead, he swept his eyes across the priestly robes on Dunn and the others, raised his eyebrows, and smiled as he asked Dunn in return:
"Should I address you as Officer, or as Your Excellency Bishop?"
Dunn stared at Evan with his deep gray eyes, as if trying to see into Evan's heart, and after a long while he spoke:
"You can call me whatever you want, after all, we're also on the police payroll. Are you trying to lure us out by reporting heretics?"
Dunn recalled that he had pulled Evan into his dream that morning, and Evan had expressed his desire to find them in the dream. He had even prepared to ask the relevant people in the police station to pay more attention, but he did not expect Evan to be so proactive. He came to their door just a few hours later.
Evan smiled and nodded, but quickly shook his head and said with a smile:
"I've been obsessed with the occult and mysterious supernatural powers since I was in college, and I've always believed that the church must possess extraordinary powers."
A few days ago I heard that Welch and Naya had an accident. After secretly seeing their bodies through an acquaintance at the police station, I became certain that they must have encountered a mysterious evil force.
The obituaries and news about them published in the newspapers early on proved that my guess about your existence was correct.
After you left this morning, I became increasingly suspicious. What kind of police would investigate a murder case that has already been closed without authorization?
Welch and Naya are both believers in the goddess, so I decided to come here and test the waters.
As expected, I tricked you all into revealing yourselves.
As he spoke, Evan scanned the four people in front of him with amusement, becoming more and more smug as he spoke.
Dunn and the others fell silent as they looked at the smug Evan.
They spent their days chasing eagles, only to have their eyes caught by the eagles themselves. The night watchmen tried their best to hide their identities and extraordinary powers from the common people, but they never expected to be tricked out of their identities by the crowd. It was truly a disgrace.
At the same time, Dunn felt somewhat relieved. Fortunately, the person who came to his door was just an ordinary occult enthusiast. If it had been a cultist with ulterior motives, he would have been in serious trouble. He decided that after this matter was settled, he would go back and report to his superiors, admit his mistake, and request punishment.
Just as Dunn and the others fell silent, Evan excitedly asked Klein:
"Klein, how did you get in? What are the requirements for joining? Can I join?"
Klein didn't know how to answer, so he could only look at Captain Dunn.
Looking at Evan's expectant face, Dunn said in a serious tone:
"This is not something you should know, Mr. Evan. The world of extraordinary individuals is extremely dangerous. I do not recommend that you join it, and it is also not appropriate for us to recruit you, because your brother personally came to our door and instructed us not to recruit you into this circle, and in fact, as an official extraordinary individual!"
So if you really want to become extraordinary, you can go to your brother, not us.
"ah????"
Evan stared wide-eyed at Dunn, completely taken aback by the unexpected answer.
He knew that the original owner's brother was very powerful, so much so that Mrs. Sharon actively tried to win him over in order to leverage his power.
But he never expected that Robert Horn would be an extraordinary being. Evan had previously regarded him as a representative of a political force, like Count Hall in Lord of Mysteries, who, although powerful and of high status, was not an extraordinary being.
But he never expected to hear such unexpected information from Dunn.
