Chapter 26 Plant Factory
Chapter 26 Plant Factory
The cold wind howled, swirling fine ice shards that pounded against the newly built plant factory's exterior with a dull thud.
Before that enormous, heart-pulsating, deep green, bud-shaped building, Olivia was squatting on the ground, her hands pressed tightly against the damp earth, her emerald pupils shrunken to the size of pinpoints.
She was trembling all over.
It wasn't cold, it was excitement.
As a witch specializing in plants, she could clearly sense the terrifying life force brewing inside the building.
That wasn't the gentle growth of natural plants; it was a violent life force forced and distorted by some kind of rule.
"Don't space out."
Lorraine's voice came from behind, "The magic crystals have been added. Has the production list been selected?"
Olivia snapped back to reality, quickly stood up, patted the dirt off her skirt, and blushed with excitement.
"I've...I've made my choice, Lord Lorraine!"
She pointed to a light screen that appeared on the side of the arsenal, her fingers trembling, "As you instructed, prioritizing cost-effectiveness and strength, so I chose..."
Om-!
Before the words were finished, the tightly closed, bud-shaped gate of the plant factory suddenly burst open.
A strong, almost pungent, grassy smell wafted out.
Immediately afterwards, a round, green thing "rolled" out from inside.
That was a... cabbage?
No.
It was a mutated cabbage, about two-thirds the height of an adult, with two thick roots serving as its legs, and two sharp, knife-edged leaves in its hands serving as its shield and weapon.
As soon as it landed, it let out a deep growl, and its two leaf-shaped shields clattered loudly. Its fierce aura was in no way inferior to that of a fully armed level one human soldier.
"this……"
Victor, who happened to be passing by, nearly popped his eyes out and almost dropped his sword. "What the hell is this? A sentient vegetable?"
"This is the 'Cabbage Swordsman'."
Lorraine glanced at the data provided in the "Witch's Codex," a slight smile playing on her lips. "Cheap to make, tough as nails, doesn't need food or water, can survive as long as there's light. Victor, go test its quality."
Victor was taken aback, then a hint of annoyance at being slighted flashed in his eyes.
Why should a dignified second-tier knight be sent to fight a cabbage?
"Excuse me!"
Victor gave a low shout.
But in order not to spoil the lord's enjoyment.
He didn't draw the strange sword, nor did he use his battle aura. Instead, he drew his previous longsword and slashed down with his physical strength.
But this sword strike could even cut a crack in the hard frozen ground.
boom!
A muffled thud.
Victor felt a tingling sensation in his hand as his longsword was firmly blocked by the cabbage-leaf shield in the hands of the cabbage swordsman!
Although the Cabbage Swordsman's knees were bent by the immense force and its roots were deeply embedded in the soil, only a faint white mark remained on its seemingly fragile leaves!
"This defense..." Victor gasped, "It's tougher than armored infantry!"
"continue."
Lorraine wasn't surprised at all; this was a war machine created from a witch's exclusive building. "It's not over yet."
As the conveyor belt in the arsenal began to turn again.
A sunflower, as tall as a person, was brought out. It was not aggressive, but its huge flower head always emitted a warm halo. Standing next to it, Victor felt the tingling and numbness in his hand disappear instantly.
Next came three strangely shaped green plants.
They have trumpet-shaped mouthparts, with their bases gripping the ground like suction cups, and their dark muzzles exude a chilling aura.
Peashooter.
"Our current magic crystal reserves are only enough to produce ten Cabbage Swordsmen, three Peashooters, and one Sunflower."
Looking at the dwindling magic crystal inventory, Lorraine felt a pang of regret.
Last night's spoils, plus the few magic crystals left over, those six hundred-plus magic crystals were gone in the blink of an eye.
This isn't growing vegetables, it's burning money.
Olivia stood to the side, covering her mouth, her eyes filled with shock.
As the person in charge of this arsenal, she could clearly sense the violent vitality contained within these plants.
"This...this is my personal building?"
She murmured to herself, feeling her worldview being reshaped.
As long as you have magic crystals, you can create an unlimited number of monsters comparable to a first-level knight.
That's so unfair!
No wonder those lords would seize any opportunity, any recipe.
No matter the cost, we must build the witch's exclusive building.
"Young Master..."
Anna walked over unnoticed, holding a cup of hot tea, her eyes somewhat dim as she looked at the imposing plant soldiers.
"Am I...useless now?"
She said it softly, her voice as faint as a mosquito's hum.
With these tireless, fearless monsters, what use is there for a maid like her who only knows how to set fires?
Just like her past experiences, she's going to be abandoned by her lord again, isn't she?
Lorraine took the tea and glanced at her.
The unease hidden in those dark red eyes was like that of a puppy afraid of being abandoned by its owner.
"What are you thinking about?"
Lorraine flicked her forehead. "These are just cannon fodder, used to fill the gaps. The real damage dealers will always be your towers."
"But once the monsters break through the fire net and rush to the city walls, we'll have to rely on Victor to fight them hand-to-hand."
"Victor is human too; he gets tired and gets hurt."
"We need an army."
"A tireless, fearless army that can hold back those beasts when they charge."
"and……"
Lorraine looked up at the gray sky outside the camp.
Sometime later, the snowflakes that were falling stopped.
A suffocating silence is spreading rapidly across this snowfield.
That was the calm before the moment of upheaval.
"Go and prepare, Anna."
Lorraine's voice turned cold as he casually placed his teacup on a nearby wooden post. "I have a feeling that this afternoon's 'Moment of Change' will be even more exciting than the past two days."
