Chapter 331: Mutated Weasel
Chapter 331: Mutated Weasel
"What on earth was that?" Calix Stone couldn’t help but ask.
"It’s a Krenth. Judging by its size, it shouldn’t be mutated.
He was probably just unlucky,"
Veronica Ziegler replied with a regretful look.
Krenth?
After hearing Veronica Ziegler’s words, the crowd relaxed a little.
It wasn’t a zombie animal, and it wasn’t mutated. Maybe what just happened really was an accident.
But Nina Jacobs sensed a trace of danger.
As she walked, she told the three of them,
"If you want to live, find a chance to leave first. The area ahead isn’t somewhere you can handle."
She thought what Sebastian Lynch had said was likely true.
If these Weasels reproduced quickly, there must be a large number of them nearby.
No wonder she’d been hearing a constant rustling sound for a while now.
Although Ian Nash and the other two were surprised, they took her words to heart.
’If Summer Warner said so, she must have her reasons.’
The group continued walking along the uneven, rocky slope.
"Mr. Lewis, since we’ve already gotten the supplies, why don’t we just head back now?"
Someone was already having second thoughts.
"This little thing scared you that badly?
There’s real treasure here. Don’t you want to grab some and sell it for a fortune later?"
Ian Logan grabbed a few of them and whispered.
That Bishop Clan Member, Nathan Moreau, had said that a large amount of that stone would appear here.
’We’ve already reached our destination. How can we leave so easily?’
"Yeah, if we just sneak a few pieces when they’re not looking, we might be set for life."
Jason Miller, who was with Ian Logan, also had a greedy look on his face.
The reason they’d willingly been hired wasn’t just for the supplies; they also wanted to take the opportunity to skim something off the top.
So many people had died looking for it, which meant the value of that stone was only rising.
Just as Jason Miller was about to say something more, he felt something on his back.
The thing quickly scurried up to the top of his head.
Ian Logan and the others’ eyes went wide, and they hurriedly scrambled back to get away.
"It’s—it’s that thing from before!"
A man nearby shouted, pointing at the top of Jason Miller’s head.
"Help me! Someone get it off—"
Jason Miller felt a sharp pain on his scalp. His eyes rolled back into his head, and by the time he realized what was happening, it was too late.
"AHH!!"
"There’s another one here!"
Screams rang out one after another, accompanied by the clash of Superpowers.
"So many! There are so many over here!"
"Over here, too!"
Ian Logan whipped his head from side to side, discovering that they had, at some point, been surrounded by a dense swarm of weasel-like creatures.
The screams were endless.
"Defend! Form a defense now!"
Calix Stone yelled.
In just a moment, dozens of people had been struck.
Although Alistair White and his people’s attacks were precise, they were no match for the sheer number of these creatures.
Nina Jacobs swiftly conjured a Diamond Sand Wall to block the way.
"There are actually this many?"
Magnus York’s expression was unreadable.
She stood behind Summer Warner, watching Alistair White’s people get pounced on and bitten one by one, a smug smile touching her lips.
She had no intention of lifting a finger.
’Numbers really are useless compared to winning over one expert.’
"Those three ran off."
Leo Flynn noticed that Lily Dalton and the other two had used the chaos to run down the slope in another direction.
"I told them to go,"
Summer Warner said.
"Then let them go. They’re smart, at least."
Magnus York didn’t want to get on Summer Warner’s bad side right now. With Summer Warner and Wayne Warner around, they had no reason to fear any Mutated Animals.
Even if she wanted to silence those three, she’d have plenty of opportunities after they got down the mountain.
Nina Jacobs tried conjuring a Fireball and hurling it at a Weasel.
A look of delight immediately appeared on her face.
’This Weasel is actually a Mutated Animal?!’
She had been worried about how she was going to find 80 Mutated Animals, but they had come to her so quickly.
The Superpower in her hands quickly coalesced in mid-air.
Immediately after, more than ten Flaming Arrows shot down from above!
The Mutated Weasels let out sharp shrieks and were quickly burned to ash.
Seeing the number in her quest log rapidly increasing, Nina Jacobs moved even faster.
After a few rounds of attacks, the Mutated Weasels finally noticed her.
They all turned and charged at her in unison!
Although the Mutated Weasels were small, their charging speed was incredible.
BOOM!
A curtain of fire taller than a person rose up before Nina Jacobs.
The Mutated Weasels that had been lunging for her were instantly devoured by the wall of fire.
"What a shame. We let that guy Alistair White get off easy again."
As the Diamond Sand Wall was retracted, Magnus York said with regret.
’If only Summer Warner had acted a little later.’
"It’s a good number. The gap in our numbers isn’t so big now."
Ben Lawson noticed that even Winslow and Alistair’s other capable assistants were injured.
It was clear just how terrifying the power of these little creatures had been.
Alistair White’s expression was grim, especially when he saw that all of Magnus York’s people were unscathed.
In just over ten minutes, he had lost more than seventy men.
Although most of them were just hired hands from the base of the mountain.
"You clearly could have saved people first."
Veronica Ziegler walked over, her face accusatory. Just now, Summer Warner had prioritized killing the Weasels.
Nina Jacobs glanced at her. "Weren’t you the one who said these things don’t attack people?"
If it hadn’t been for Veronica Ziegler’s words, perhaps everyone would have remained on guard.
But what she said had rendered the initial warning completely useless.
Nina Jacobs had seen plenty of people like her before.
They were the type to shift blame onto others to make people overlook their own responsibility.
"But I didn’t mean for it to happen,"
Veronica Ziegler said quickly.
"Enough. Veronica is right. Don’t think we’ll trust you just because you saved some people just now,"
Alistair White said as he walked over.
’Saving people?’
Nina Jacobs then realized they had misunderstood.
"Whether you live or die has nothing to do with me."
After saying this, Nina Jacobs turned and continued walking forward with Wayne Warner.
Her Seven-Day Task 4 was now successfully completed, and she had also obtained 50,000 System Experience.
And because there were enough Mutated Weasels,
the automatically activated Seven-Day Task 5 was already partially complete.
"So when exactly did Veronica Ziegler get involved with Alistair White?"
Nina Jacobs overheard Ben Lawson and Magnus York discussing it behind her.
"It’s not certain who’s with whom. Veronica Ziegler is probably one of the successors to some Ancient Martial Clan. See those few people over there? They’re all with her."
Following Magnus York’s gaze, Nina Jacobs also noticed a few people who were constantly protecting Veronica Ziegler.
Nina Jacobs remembered that their strength was not to be underestimated.
"You’re right. But she won’t affect our operation, will she?"
Ben Lawson sounded a little worried.
However, to everyone’s surprise, Veronica Ziegler was planning to leave early.
"The person I’m looking for isn’t here. I’ll wait at the foot of the mountain for you all to return victoriously."
Veronica Ziegler stood before Alistair White, saying something, then took an item out of her space and handed it to him.
Nina Jacobs overheard their conversation as well.
Veronica Ziegler said it was a life-saving Golden Silk Jade Armor, a family heirloom.
"I’ll return it to you after we get down the mountain. I’ll help you look for your person again then,"
Alistair White said as he accepted the item.
’Looks like those two are on pretty good terms?’
’If what Magnus York said is true, Veronica Ziegler must have decided to leave because she believes the person from the prophecy isn’t here.’
