Chapter 3 Adventurers and Goblins
Chapter 3 Adventurers and Goblins
"Liu Bei, why are you so slow!"
Ansel, who was dozing by the now-extinguished campfire beside the bridge, was yawning.
"I rode my horse all night to get here, how come you're here so fast?" Liu Bei was a little surprised by Ansel's return, and also surprised by the speed at which he had traveled.
"This trip cost me dearly! I used two flight scrolls just to get ahead of you!" Ansel said with a pained expression. "I originally wanted to catch up with you directly, but you were worried about a Mind Flayer army heading towards Dagger Beach, so I flew over there and found those Tifferin. By the time I came back, you were long gone, so I just waited for you here."
"Welcome back!" Liu Bei handed the reins of another horse to Ansel.
Ansel didn't answer, but tacitly took the reins and jumped onto the horse. With their backs to the rising sun, the two continued along the path under the troll's claws.
The two hadn't gone far when Ansel suddenly called out to Liu Bei, "Liu Bei, there's a magical fluctuation ahead."
As a sorcerer, Ansel is exceptionally sensitive to magic.
Liu Bei, without suspicion, immediately stopped, pulled on the reins, dismounted, tied the horse to the side of the road, and, led by Ansel, explored the area.
......
"Eladin, I've already said it, what does it have to do with us that that guy got lost! Do we have to drag us down with us just to find him?"
The blond man wielding a short sword killed the goblin in front of him with a single blow, and complained loudly during a lull in the fighting.
"Bass, shut up! Save your nonsense for later!"
Eladin blocked the goblin warrior's swing and pushed him away forcefully. Just as he was about to take another step, an arrow shot from behind him nearly hit his shoulder.
Eladin was furious. He turned around and yelled at the archers behind him, "Remira, damn it, can't you aim properly? You almost hit me!"
Remila did not refute, but simply drew her bow again and fired another arrow, which struck the charging goblin warrior.
"Damn it, this is never going to end!"
Eladin gripped his wooden stick tightly. Remira's arrow had killed the last goblin in front of him, but he still felt a nagging feeling, as if more enemies were lurking in the darkness.
A spell suddenly shot out from the forest, accompanied by thunder—it was the Radiant Orb!
Aladdin, who was prepared, narrowly escaped, but when he looked in the direction of the colorful ball, he was immediately plunged into despair.
Goblin, Goblin Mage, Goblin Archer, Dire Wolf...
What emerged from the dense forest was no longer a small squad of goblins, but an army!
......
Hidden in the shadows, Ansel asked in a low voice, "Liu Bei, what should we do? Should we save him or not?"
"Help! But we can't just rush straight in like this, or we'll both end up in there too."
The positions of Liu Bei and his companion were excellent; they were situated at a high vantage point, allowing them to clearly see the situation below.
In the dense forest unseen by Eladin and his companions, the goblin warriors, who had yet to appear, began to circle around, their intention clearly to block their retreat. In addition, archers were climbing towards them, their aim to gain higher ground.
The tactical skills of this group of goblins were somewhat beyond Liu Bei's expectations, once again refreshing his understanding of goblins.
He had initially thought goblins were just monsters who lived by plunder and were bloodthirsty, but now he saw their exceptional combat skills beneath that bloodthirsty exterior.
We can no longer view these creatures as wild animals.
"Ansel, do you have any spells prepared to assist in the retreat?"
After spending time together, Liu Bei also learned that Ansel had a natural love for fire and that all the spells he had prepared were related to flames, which is why he asked this question.
"I only prepared one greasy technique, how do I do it?"
Sure enough, it's still Ansel who loves playing with fire. This greasy technique sounds like preparation for setting fires!
"Alright, I'll ambush those goblin guards who've circled around. Once I'm in position, you just make a big commotion here! As soon as their attention is drawn, cast Grease and retreat!"
Ansel nodded, pondered for a moment, and realized that the spell needed to both slow down the goblins' pursuit and be sufficiently intimidating. He immediately thought of a spell, one that he had slightly modified.
He took out spell-casting materials from his spell-casting kit: a fresh dragon scale and a bottle of oil. Then he pointed to a clearing below the cliff and said, "Liu Bei, I'll cast a spell here in a bit. A wall of fire will extend down from here, which should buy us some time. You finish this quickly, and I'll wait for you behind!"
"That's perfect!" Liu Bei nodded in confirmation. The spell Ansel had mentioned was even more powerful than he had imagined; it could attract attention and also hinder the enemy. So, while Ansel prepared his spell, he silently ambushed the group of goblin warriors, protecting the adventurers' retreat.
Upon seeing Liu Bei's arrival, Ansel immediately stood up: "Hey, you greenskins, come and taste my wrath!"
With incantations, gestures, and a red dragon scale, a line of fire, under his control, rapidly spread towards the goblin army.
The raging fire drew everyone's attention.
Taking advantage of the goblins' brief moment of confusion, Ansel didn't hesitate and kept his hands busy preparing for the next spell!
"It's a wall of fire! There's a spellcaster passing by!" Bass shouted excitedly. He spotted Ansel on the high ground. "It's that halfling! But why are there two halflings that look exactly alike!"
"Fool, it's a trick!" Eladin cursed Bass.
"There's a caster who can cast Fire Wall. Should we help him wipe out these goblins? It'll be easier to find the relics later if these troublesome goblins are gone," Remira whispered.
Just as Aladdin was about to answer, the voice behind him made the decision for him!
"What are you all standing there for? Let's go!"
It was Liu Bei who said this!
Seeing the flames rise, Liu Bei immediately leaped out of the shadows: "Enraged, execute!"
The twin swords in his hands flowed with holy light, and guided by divine power, they cleaved the goblin warrior in two.
Like the mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind, the goblin warriors who had been flanking and attacking from behind were clearly not expecting to be attacked by Liu Bei, and immediately fell into chaos.
Taking advantage of the goblins' confusion, Liu Bei wielded his twin swords, creating a whirlwind of destruction as he went, inflicting heavy casualties on the goblins. He shouted, "What are you waiting for? Come with me and deal with these goblins! Otherwise, if the goblins behind catch up, none of us will escape!"
The trio, who had been fantasizing about annihilating the goblin army in front of them, suddenly turned pale. Looking behind them, they saw a small goblin squad fighting a paladin wielding a longsword in both hands.
At this moment, how could they not guess why this goblin squad had appeared behind them!
"Eladin, the halfling is gone!"
Eladin turned around and could vaguely see the goblins lying haphazardly on the ground behind the flames, some falling down and others getting up.
Why did he run away?
The adventurer Eladin is not a spellcaster, but he has an exceptional understanding of the spells commonly used by spellcasters.
A question suddenly popped into his mind.
Why is it called "greasy technique"?
Shouldn't there be even more and better crowd control spells in this situation? Aren't Web Spell, Stink Cloud Spell, and Slow Spell all better than Grease Spell?
Even without crowd control spells, what about area-of-effect damage spells? A Frost Storm would do!
Eladin suddenly realized something was wrong.
This fire isn't right either; it's not the Four-Ring Fire Wall technique!
That was a low-level spellcaster, a spellcaster who didn't even have a dagger cloud on him.
Eladin's heart sank to the bottom. Could he just be a first-circle mage?
Realizing this, he immediately said, "Lerami, Bass, let's go! We have to leave before the goblins notice us!"
"Go? Aren't we supposed to kill these goblins behind us with that paladin first?" Leirami asked, puzzled, after firing an arrow.
"We didn't ask that guy to come and save us!" Eladin's actions were faster than his words. "While those greens are tied up with him, let's get out of here!"
"What about him?" Remila felt a pang of pity.
"Tyr will redeem him!"
